Plaza de Ángel Carbajo
Honours Ángel Carbajo Fierro, a Galician of the Blue Division killed on the Russian front in 1942.
Ángel Carbajo Fierro, a Galician settled in Madrid, volunteered in 1941 for the Blue Division, the unit of Spanish soldiers who fought alongside the German army on the eastern front. He died there in March 1942, at twenty-nine.
The city named this square after him in 1954, proposed by a deputy mayor of Tetuán and former comrade in arms.
The square opens between Infanta Mercedes and Orense, in the heart of Castillejos, a district that grew as a residential extension north of the city. Beneath it today lies a residents' car park that shares the same name.
