Calle de Herberto Gut

Adelfas

Honours Herberto Gut (1946-1997), the Argentine businessman who founded Prosegur, whose headquarters stand on this very street.

This short street in the Adelfas neighbourhood came from a recent change. Until 2025 it was the last stretch of the calle de los Pajaritos, between Garibay and Santa Sabina. The city council renamed it that year after Herberto Gut, the businessman whose company has its registered office here. Gut was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1946, into a family of Swiss roots, settled in Madrid in the seventies and in 1976 founded Prosegur, devoted to cash transport and private security. From that start grew a multinational of armoured vans and surveillance present across much of the world. He died in Madrid in 1997, in a traffic accident. The even-numbered side is taken up almost entirely by Prosegur buildings. Anyone who reads the plaque today stands before the headquarters of the name that christened it, an unusual thing in Madrid’s streets.
