Calle Diagonal

Almenara

The name describes the street’s layout, which cuts diagonally across the neighbourhood grid, with no further documented history.

The name says it all. Calle Diagonal is so called because its course breaks the right angle: it cuts obliquely across the grid of blocks in this corner of Almenara, where every other street meets at a square. It is a very short street, and nearly all its reason for being fits in its name. It is one of those names a city gives itself when it has no one to remember. Instead of a general, a saint or a trade, the map turns to geometry. There is no record of who decided the name or when. Whoever looks for it will find it by elimination: the only one that does not obey the square.
