Calle del Corazón de María

Prosperidad

The street honours the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Marian title that gives its name to the Claretian Missionaries settled in this stretch of Prosperidad.

The name pays homage to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the title that celebrates the Virgin’s inner life and her maternal love. Behind the dedication lies a congregation: the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, founded by Antonio María Claret on 16 July 1849 in a cell of the Vic seminary. From that order, known as the Claretians, the devotion spread across much of the world. The choice of title was not unrelated to the place. Here stands the parish run by those same missionaries, today under the title of San Antonio María Claret, which ties the neighbourhood to the order and its patroness. Prosperidad grew in the late 19th century as a modest colony north of the city, and the religious presence was one of the threads that stitched together the scattered houses. The name still points inward: toward a heart that Catholic iconography depicts ringed with roses and pierced by a sword.
