Calle de Pedro Moreno
A street in Castillejos dedicated to a Pedro Moreno whose identity has not been documented.
The name points to a person, one Pedro Moreno, but no reliable identification survives of who he was or what merit the tribute answers. The origin, quite simply, is undocumented.
The street belongs to Castillejos, one of Tetuán’s districts. Much of the area’s street map evokes the African war of 1859-1860, the campaign that gave the district its name and left the battle of Los Castillejos, where Prim won his prestige on the first day of 1860. Whether Pedro Moreno belongs to that roll of combatants or answers to another story could not be established. Today it is a short, narrow stretch within the so-called Golden Triangle, among office towers and blocks of subsidized housing. A modest name on one of the most expensive corners in the city.
