Calle de Mariano Serrano

The street bears the name of Mariano Serrano, of whom no biography survives. There is no reliable record of who he was or what he did for his surname to end up on a plaque in Valdeacederas. The neighborhood offers the only clue. Many of its streets were named after the owners of the land they were laid out on, residents who parceled out or ceded their plots in exchange for a place on the map. Valdeacederas grew in the twentieth century over old farmland at the foot of Paseo de la Dirección, and from that division of land there remained a domestic toponymy, made of owners' surnames rather than famous figures.
