Calle de la Brisa

The name celebrates the soft air that stirs the leaves without a storm, a light word to match the small scale of the street. The Calle de la Brisa is a short residential street linking Calle de los Olivos with Avenida del Valle, in Vallehermoso. The three belong to the Parque Urbanizado Metropolitano, the colony of small villas that the Compañía Urbanizadora Metropolitana began to build around 1920, with two-story houses set in gardens for a well-off clientele. The names of the three neighboring streets point to the countryside: the olive tree, the valley, the breeze. There is no record of why breeze was chosen over some similar word. Today, among student residences and the Madrid campus of Saint Louis University, the street keeps the quiet scale of that colony.
