Calle de Emilia

The street keeps a simple first name, with no surname beside it, on a plaque in the Almenara neighbourhood of Tetuán. Who this Emilia was has not been documented. Almenara, which many locals kept calling la Ventilla, grew largely off the official map, on parcelled-out land and houses built by the residents themselves. In that fabric of modest streets, a first name like Emilia was enough to find your way, even as its actual owner faded with time.
