Calle de Carlos Caamaño

Nueva España

It honours Carlos Caamaño y Horcasitas (1878-1947), an economist and financial journalist who headed the State’s Public Debt office.

Carlos Caamaño y Horcasitas was born in Oropesa, in the province of Toledo, in 1878, and died in Madrid in 1947. Trained as a commercial teacher, he devoted his career to economics and financial journalism. He wrote for El Economista, El Liberal and ABC, and in 1913 founded La Semana Financiera, a review of finance, the stock market and trade that kept appearing long after his death. At the same time he held posts in charge of the State’s debt: he was director general of Public Debt and chaired the government’s delegation to the Banco de Crédito Industrial. The street lies in the Nueva España neighbourhood of Chamartín, among streets dedicated to other figures of his time.
