Calle de Alejandro Rodríguez

Bellas Vistas

The name dedicates the street to an Alejandro Rodríguez whose identity appears in no record.

The name points to a person, an Alejandro Rodríguez, but the identity has been lost. Neither the municipal register nor the neighbourhood chronicles explain who he was or why Bellas Vistas set aside a street for him. The surname travels alone, with no trade or date behind it. The street belongs to the grid by which Tetuán grew from the mid-nineteenth century, when the military camp of the Altos del Hipódromo turned permanent and drew families looking for cheap housing far from the centre. The broken ground of Bellas Vistas forced narrow streets, fitted to the slopes. It has a peculiarity of route: it begins as a continuation of los Leñeros and changes name on crossing Numancia, so a single urban axis carries two signs depending on the stretch. Halfway along stands the Ignacio Zuloaga school.
