Calle Arquitectura
Dedicated to architecture as an art, with no documented reason for the choice.
The calle Arquitectura takes its name from one of the oldest trades, the raising of what is meant to last, yet it keeps no memory of itself: there is no record of why the word was chosen. It runs between the plaza de las Peñuelas and the paseo de Santa María de la Cabeza, in the old outskirts of Las Peñuelas, now part of the Acacias neighbourhood.
The name points to what were once called the three Noble Arts, architecture, sculpture and painting, the disciplines gathered by the Academy that for centuries marked the line between artist and artisan.
A few steps away, the fountain in the plaza de las Peñuelas, installed around 1860, still stands in a corner that went from a labourers' outskirt to a factory district.
