Calle Alejandro Ferrant
Honours Alejandro Ferrant y Fischermans (1843-1917), a Madrid history painter and muralist who decorated San Francisco el Grande.
Behind this stretch of Delicias stands Alejandro Ferrant y Fischermans (1843-1917), a Madrid painter born into a family of artists. He worked in history painting, portraiture and landscape, but his most visible mark was left on walls.
He decorated the Linares Palace, the Miramar oratory in San Sebastián and the Palace of Justice in Barcelona. His most remembered commission was the church of San Francisco el Grande, where he worked alongside Pradilla and Manuel Domínguez and painted the sibyls and prophets inside the dome.
He went on to chair the Painting section of the San Fernando Academy and to direct the Museum of Modern Art. His son Ángel Ferrant was one of the most singular avant-garde sculptors of the twentieth century.
