Avenida de Burgos

Castilla

It takes the name of the city of Burgos because it marks the Madrid start of the historic road north, today the A-1 motorway.

The name points to a destination. The Avenida de Burgos, running south to north, is the Madrid start of the historic road that links the capital with Burgos and, beyond it, with Irún and the French border. It names that exit after the first great Castilian city travelers met on leaving Madrid heading north. The route crosses the Castilla, Valverde and Valdefuentes neighborhoods and continues to Las Tablas, where it joins the A-1 motorway, still known as the Burgos road. Where once there were empty lots and the first miles of a national highway, business parks now line up. This old northern gateway remains one of the capital’s busiest arteries.
