Calle Valdovín

Prosperidad

Records a Galician place-name, Valdovín, which designates a well-known sulphurous spring in Guitiriz (Lugo), though there is no documented record that the street was named after it.

Valdovín is a Galician place-name. It is borne, among other places, by a sulphurous spring that rises in the parish of Parga, in the Lugo municipality of Guitiriz, a region known for its medicinal springs. From that spout flows cold water, around fifteen degrees, to which virtues were attributed for the liver, the kidneys and the skin. Guitiriz was a spa town of northern Galicia, with baths that drew those seeking a cure in its waters. The Fonte de Valdovín is part of the so-called Ruta del Agua, which links three springs of the area and runs near the route of the Camino Norte to Santiago. There is no documented record that the Valdovín of Prosperidad, a street barely over a hundred meters long, takes its name from that particular spring. The place-name appears at various points in Galicia and its etymology is disputed, so the origin of this street remains unspecified.
