Calle Tomás Borrás
Remembers the writer, journalist and official chronicler of Madrid Tomás Borrás Bermejo (1891-1976).
Tomás Borrás Bermejo (1891-1976), a Madrid native, earned a law degree but barely practised: he soon threw himself into journalism. He wrote theatre and art reviews for El Sol and ABC, wrote novels and short stories, translated, and worked for the cinema. In 1953 he was named official chronicler of the city.
In 1925 he married Aurora Mañanós, a Basque cabaret singer known as La Goya, one of the great voices of the cuplé of her day, who left the stage shortly after the wedding.
Calle de Tomás Borrás opens in the La Chopera neighbourhood, short and perpendicular to Calle de Embajadores. It was once called Calle de Amaro García. At number 2, where the writer lived and died, a plaque marks his memory.
