Calle del Vizconde de Matamala
The street is named after the viscountcy of Matamala, created on 6 June 1703 by Philip V for Lucas Jerónimo Yáñez de Barnuevo y San Clemente, first Marquis of Zafra, of the Barnuevo line from Soria. The street opens in Fuente del Berro during the building of the Iturbe developments in the 1920s, near the Paseo del Marqués de Zafra and the Calle Diego Bahamonde, of the same lineage.
A street opened in the garden colony of Fuente del Berro, in the parcel Gregorio Iturbe developed during the 1920s. Nearby, the Paseo del Marqués de Zafra and the Calle Diego Bahamonde repeat surnames of the same line, though no one has found the agreement that would prove the three names were chosen together.
The title was born much earlier, on 6 June 1703, when Philip V granted it to Lucas Jerónimo Yáñez de Barnuevo, at once first Marquis of Zafra. The Barnuevo family ranked among the twelve historic lineages of Soria, and the title looks toward Matamala de Almazán, the town that lent its name.
The second viscount, Diego Miguel Rodríguez de Bahamonde, headed the Central University of Madrid and was in charge during the Night of San Daniel, on 10 April 1865.
