Calle de Rodríguez San Pedro

Arapiles·Gaztambide

Recalls Faustino Rodríguez San Pedro, an Asturian lawyer and politician who served as mayor of Madrid and government minister during the Restoration.

Before it took his name, this street was called Calle de San Rafael, and so it appears on Madrid’s maps until the early 20th century. The change honors Faustino Rodríguez San Pedro, a prestigious lawyer in the Madrid courts who took office as mayor of Madrid in 1890 and, under the reign of Alfonso XIII, held the portfolios of Finance, State, and Public Instruction. The street today crosses the neighborhoods of Gaztambide and Arapiles, in a straight line between Calle de la Princesa and Calle de San Bernardo, stitching Chamberí from west to east.
