Calle de Castillo Piñeiro
Honours Eduardo del Castillo Piñeiro, a Madrid doctor who served as patron of the Hospital de San José y Santa Adela, built on the very corner of the street.
The name recalls Eduardo del Castillo Piñeiro (1845-1908), a doctor trained at the Central University of Madrid, where he took his doctorate very young. He directed the Anatomical Cabinet of Doctor Velasco and combined his practice with Carlist politics and the editorship of a conservative newspaper.
His mark on this corner of Bellas Vistas has a precise cause. A lady, Adela Balboa, left a bequest on her death to found a house of health for the male and female servants of the court. Castillo Piñeiro was executor of that will and patron of the work born from it: the Hospital de San José y Santa Adela, which still raises its bulk on the corner with Avenida de la Reina Victoria and which, since 1918, has been tied to the Red Cross.
Both wills were carved into the map: near this street also runs the one dedicated to Adela Balboa, the benefactress.
